Are Lab diamonds, real diamonds?
Short answer: Yes! Other than their origin, there is no difference between Lab diamonds and natural diamonds. The difference remains in where they are formed. Natural diamonds are produced in the earth, and lab grown diamonds as their name suggests, are man-made in a laboratory. Natural diamonds and lab grown diamonds are chemically and visually the same. Both types of diamonds have the same types of colour and clarity and can be cut into a number of shapes.
Natural diamonds are formed 100s of km below the earth’s surface in the mantel, under intense heat and pressure. Did you know that it takes between one to 3.3 billion years, for carbon to become a diamond?
A lab grown diamond, also known as a man-made diamond, is cultivated in controlled laboratory environments. They use modern technology to duplicate the process that diamonds are formed in the mantel. Lab grown diamonds are created with carbon atoms and have the same characteristics of natural diamonds. The only way to tell the difference between a lab grown diamond and a natural diamond is through tests with specialized equipment. The human eye cannot alone distinguish the difference.
Lab grown diamonds are growing in popularity with younger generations. These diamonds are guaranteed to be conflict-free and more environmentally friendly.
WHAT IS THE PRICE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A LAB GROWN DIAMOND AND A NATURAL DIAMOND?
If you love the look of a diamond but not the price tag associated with it, a lab grown diamond is an excellent choice. Lab grown diamonds typically cost 60% less than natural diamonds of comparable size and quality. Lab grown diamonds do not come with the added costs from miners, traders, polishers, and other middlemen. They are typically grown in a single farm that sees the diamond through creation to market, eliminating the margins and middlemen. If you are buying a lab grown diamond and hoping it will appreciate, or have resale value, you will be disappointed. Unlike natural diamonds, lab grown diamonds do not have any resale value.
CAN LAB GROWN DIAMONDS BE GIA AND IGI CERTIFIED?
Yes. For many years lab grown diamonds have been graded by the GIA and IGI. All our lab grown diamonds that are over 1ct comes with either a IGI or GIA certification. In 2019 the GIA removed the word synthetic from the certification.

GIA新版實驗室培育鑽石分級證書採用與天然鑽石相同的4C分級術語及描述。 增加了新的項目鑒定(IDENTIFICATION),標明該樣品為實驗室培育鑽石、以及「該鑽石為人造鑽石並由實驗室培育生長」的備註; 腰圍的雷射刻字除了有證書編號外,還將刻上“LABORATORY GROWN”字樣。
培育鑽石和天然鑽石的共性
培育鑽石是在實驗室合成的鑽石,具有與天然鑽石基本相同的物理性質、化學成分和晶體結構,培育鑽石的主要成分也是碳(Carbon)。 培育鑽石的性質就是鑽石,硬度也是10,火彩非常好,像折射率、密度、導熱性都是和天然鑽石一模一樣的。
培育鑽石和天然鑽石的區別
1)天然鑽石當然是由金剛石加工成的名貴寶石,也是最有價值的。 培育鑽石可以理解為人工類比鑽石的生長環境製造出來的和天然鑽石成份一樣的鑽石,也就是實驗室鑽石,權威鑒定所可以鑒定並區別出來,生產方式是培育鑽石和天然鑽石的最大區別。
2)培育鑽石和天然鑽石的區別就是一個是自然形成,一個是人為加工,但成份一樣,都是純碳結構,硬度也一樣,據說還有其它的人造鑽石比天然鑽石更硬。 天然鑽石的莫氏硬度是10,是自然界最硬的物質。
3)天然鑽石和培育鑽石的價格區別,價格是價值的體現,天然鑽石的價值自不用多說。 培育鑽石不瞭解的人可能覺得會很便宜,其實不然,培育鑽石的生產條件極其苛刻,所以生產出來的培育鑽石成本也是極高的,就算是現在條件相對成熟一點,一克拉培育鑽石也需要九千的價格,而天然鑽石一克拉少則五到六萬,多則十萬以上,主要還得看鑽石品質。
4)培育鑽石由於是人為加工,所以在凈度和顏色上會比一般鑽石更優質,這也是培育鑽石和純天然鑽石的區別。 顏色和凈度是對鑽石價格有很大影響的,天然形成的品質不能一概而論,有好的有次的。 培育鑽石的品質往往會更優質,培育鑽石切工出來的火彩也更是有過之而無不及。
